(With photos) CAIRO, Nov 19 (KUNA) -- Syria had proposed a number of work papers to be presented during the Economic, Developmental and Social Summit in Kuwait on January 19-20, 2009, head of the Syrian delegation to the preparatory meeting of the summit Abdulhakim Qedah said Wednesday.
Qedah, who is also the General Director of Organizations and Relations Department at the Syrian ministry of economy and trade told KUNA that the summit would discuss 340 proposals, only five of which would be chosen in the fields of power and water linkage, railways, food security, water resources and combating unemployment and poverty.
Preparations for the Kuwait summit were at its peak so as for it to come up with resolutions that are beneficial for the Arab citizen, Qedah said.
On fears that the global financial crisis would overshadow financing projects to be endorsed by the summit, Qedah forecasted that such "fears" were not likely to materialize due to the magnitude of these projects, which would inevitably lead to true economic development throughout the Arab World.
Channeling Arab investments toward Arab countries was one of the objectives of the summit, he said, noting that pan-Arab economy should rebuild itself in face of potential crises.
The Syrian official pointed out that consequences of the recent global crisis are currently being examined by the committee, an issue that was seen as a positive sign in dealing with economic developments. (end) kz.mfm.hb KUNA 192146 Nov 08NNNN
