CAIRO, Sept 30 (KUNA) -- The Arab Economic Unity Council will be holding a series of important meetings during October to discuss the impending economic issues aimed at the development of Arab economic cooperation in the coming stage and preparation for the Arab economic summit in Kuwait. The secretary general of the Council, Dr. Ahmad Jowaili told reporters today that he recently reviewed with his aides working papers on the subjects contained in the dossier prepared for submission to the Council of Arab Economic Summit to be held in Kuwait next January 19-20. He stressed the need to focus on the notion of the Greater Arab Free Trade Zone and the issue of inter-Arab trade and steps to accomplish the Arab Customs Union as the next stage on the road to establishing a common Arab market.
He emphasized the importance of the establishment of the Arab Finance Corporation, which will be entrusted with financing private sector projects and youth projects as well as small and medium business projects. He noted that the Committee on Anti-dumping will hold a meeting at the Secretariat of the Council on October 8-9 to discuss a program for the preparation for the establishment of a workable mechanism for anti-dumping in the Arab countries, thus implementing the resolutions of the Council in this regard. He pointed out that attending the Anti-dumping committee meetings will be the heads and representatives of relevant anti-dumping departments in the Arab countries in addition to heads of Arab specialized organizations versed in anti-dumping issues.
Jowaili said that the "Mechanism for Development of Arab Trade" will be meeting on October 14 and 15 with the heads of the ministries concerned with trade in Arab countries to discuss a number of important items on its agenda, particularly the difficulties facing the implementation of the Arab market electronics trade as well as those facing the implementation of Arab e-commerce websites. He emphasized the great importance of intellectual property rights protection, for benefit of the global trade in goods or services, adding that the issue of intellectual property governs competition in the fields of trade, industry, and creativity worldwide. The unity council will be organizing during the period from Oct 13 to 15 a training session on (intellectual property rights and their effects on investment and trade in the Arab world) in cooperation between the Secretary General of the World Organization of Intellectual Property Rights (WIPO) and the participation of Arab countries.
