Moussa lauds role of NGOs in preparing for Arab economic summit

CAIRO, Sept 15 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa underlined here Monday the importance of the role of civil society organizations in preparing for the Arab Economic Social and Development Summit, due in Kuwait next January.
The civil society organization, private sectors and businesspeople have to intensify their efforts to develop projects and programs for socio-economic development to be adopted by the summit, a press release issued by the league's secretariat on Monday quoted Moussa as saying during his meeting with his aides on Sunday.
During the meeting Moussa instructed his aides to pay due attention to the first Arab forum on development which would precede the summit, according to the statement.
The forum will gather leading Arab businesspeople and investors as well as representatives of the private sectors and non-government organizations and analyze the indicators and outlook of socio-economic development in the Arab countries.
Moussa and his aides reviewed a report on preparations for the summit worked out by the general coordinator of the event Mervat Al-Tellawi.
Moussa voiced confidence that the summit would be an unprecedented event in terms of organization, level of participation and significance of agenda items, it added.
The Cairo-based league will host a meeting of leading Arab businesspeople and investors later this evening under chairmanship of Al-Tellawi with a view to crystallizing mutually-acceptable conceptions on the role of NGOs and business sector in the summit. (end) ez.gb KUNA 152202 Sep 08NNNN
