(With photos) KUWAIT, Sept 10 (KUNA) -- The Arab economic, development and social summit due in Kuwait on January 19-20, 2009, is of great significance as it will discuss sensitive topics, Arab League Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs Mohammad Al-Twaijri said on Wednesday.
"It is very important to prepare very well to the event," Al-Twaijri told reporters upon his arrival here for a visit to Kuwait.
"The visit is part of preparations for the summit which will be the first to attract business people and representatives of the civil society organizations in the Arab countries.
"On the sidelines of the event, trade fairs and economic forums will be organized," he pointed out.
"In line with the resolution of the last Arab Summit, held in Riyadh on March 28-29, 2007, the economic summit seeks to ensure sound food security, healthcare and educational services to all Arab citizens," Al-Twaijri added.
Meanwhile, Mervat Al-Tellawi, coordinator of the summit, said contacts were underway among all concerned parties to ensure the best possible preparation for the summit and all sideline activities.
"We are exchanging views with the Kuwait officials on all agenda topics and preparations for the summit and the other activities coinciding with it," she made clear.
"The organizing committee has already finished its works and studies and started reviewing them with a view to taking into account all suggestions of the league's members.
"Contacts and co-ordinations are going well on a daily basis between Kuwait and the Arab League as well as among the other Arab countries," Al-Tellawi underscored.
For her part, Arab League Assistant Secretary General for Social Affairs Sima Bahouth noted that the aim of the summit was to improve the living standards of Arab citizens.
"It will be a big stride on the march towards political, economic and social integration among the Arab countries," she underscored.
