Iran holds neutral stance to Caucasus conflict

TEHRAN, Sept 1 (KUNA) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hassan Ghashghavi denied his country's sway towards any of the sides involved in the Caucasus conflict.
In a statement to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), he said that Tehran held a "neutral stance" regarding the conflict between "the neighbouring countries." Russia and Georgia have been in conflict over demands for independence from two regions in Georgia, South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
He said that the best way to deal with the conflict was for each of the sides to practice restraint, indicating that foreign interference would do nothing but complicate the situation and lead to deterioration of security in the region. (end) ht.sd KUNA 012117 Sep 08NNNN
