GRENOBLE, France, April 25 (KUNA) -- Higher Education Undersecretary Dr.
Rasha Al-Sabah signed here Friday with the President of Stendhal University in
Grenoble Patrick Chezaud an agreement for a program to teach the Arabic
language at the Kuwaiti Cultural Office in Paris.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Director of the Kuwaiti Cultural
Office Dr. Mohammed Al-Feeli, Tagreed Abu Al-Hassan from the Kuwait Institute
for Scientific Research (KISR), Salwa Al-Mutairi from the Kuwaiti Ministry of
Education and Higher Education and the professor in charge of teaching Arabic
at the center Rita Mazen.
This agreement signed today aims at setting an official framework for the
cooperation between the Cultural Office and the University and to facilitate
and boost the exchange between the two sides.
The agreement signed stipulates that the University is responsible for the
scientific aspects of the center, where a professor of Arabic and Arab
civilization has been assigned to teach Arabic as a foreign language and also
Arab civilization.
According to the agreement, Stendhal University is also required to place
all its knlwedge and experience, through its assigned professor, to teach
Arabic as a foreign language.
The University is also required to include in its teaching curriculum the
necessary information to provide and deliver knowledge of the Gulf region and
Kuwait in particular to the French audience.
Those who have taken Arabic classes in the center and have completed their
course can take a national exam later at the University to attain a national
certificate of languages that is accredited on a European level, which is
considered an important article in the agreement.
As for the Cultural Office, it is responsible for enlightening the French
audience of this educational program through all adequate means.
Dr. Rasha is representing H.H. the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad
Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah at the ceremony inaugurating the Arabic language teaching
center for foreigners, which is financed by H.H. Sheikh Nasser.
Following the signing of the ceremony Dr. Rasha presented to the President
of the University a memento on this occasion. (end)
