Israel to have defense system against Palestinian missiles by 2010 -- Olmert

GAZA, Feb 24 (KUNA) -- Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Sunday his country would have a defense system to confront Palestinian missiles being launched from Gaza Strip by 2010.
The new system will protect the Israeli towns, notably Sderot, which are adjacent to Gaza Strip, Olmert told the weekly cabinet meeting.
He added that his government planned to build 14 schools and enhance the security of each house in Negev area, south Israel, through a modern system.
The system depends on a highly-effective early-warning device that will be provided to thousands of buildings in west Negev to protect them against the Palestinian missiles.
During its Sunday meeting, the Israeli cabinet set aside USD 98 million for the new defense system. (end) zt.gb KUNA 241345 Feb 08NNNN
