ANKARA, May 21 (KUNA) -- The Turkish army is amassing troops near the
borders with Iraq after police positions were set on the Iraqi side of the
borders, according to Hurriyet newspaper in its online edition on Monday.
It said there was a "dangerous escalation" on the Turkish-Iraqi borders
where around 120 Peshmerga troops were deployed at border crossings after they
received two-month training on military confrontations.
The paper made the report at a time the Turkish army was carrying out heavy
combing operations in the southeast of Turkey to search for Kurdish
separatists.
Hurriyet reported a state of panic in the villages in northern Iraq due to
the military movements. (end)
