BERLIN, May 11 (KUNA) -- More than 11,000 employees of Deutsche Telekom
have responded to the German Labor Union's called and staged a strike on
Friday.
Union Spokesman Ado Wilhelm said in a statement to local radio that such a
major strike would delay Telekom services.
He said the union's demands included the cancellation of plans to relocate
50,000 Telekom employees and putting them on lower wages and under harsher
working conditions.
For his part, Telecom Spokesman Karl Eick said it was too early to predict
the outcome of a planned relocation of staff to the company's branches,
demanding that the trade union wait for developments.
The strike has had a negative impact on customers, to the degree that some
companies and institutions have ceased to carry out their work because of
malfunctions that have occurred and the lack of Telekom staff to repair them.
Some 50,000 people work for Telekom. (end)
