KUN0045 4 GEN 0236 FRANCE /AFP -TPE5 MIL-INDIA-ARMY-APPOINTMENTS Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah appointed Deputy Chief of Indian Army NEW DELHI, Sept 29 (KUNA) -- Distinguished officer of Indian Army and former Indian Defence Attache to Saudi Arabia, Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah will take over as Deputy Chief of Army Staff of India from October 1, 2006. Lt Gen P R Gangadharan will take over as the Military Secretary of Indian Army the same day, a Defence Ministry statement said in Delhi Friday. Shah was commissioned in June 1968 into the 185 Light Regiment (Camel Pack) of the Indian Army. He has served as Defence Attache in Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia from 1994-1997. Shah has participated in counter-insurgency operations in India's Northeast and Northern state of Punjab. During 'Operation Parakram' standoff with Pakistan in 2002, he commanded the 54 Infantry Division of the Indian Army and subsequently commanded Bengal Area and 3 Corps in the Northeast, the statement said. Lt Gen Gangadharan was commissioned into 4th Battalion of the Maratha Light Infantry on Dec 21, 1968 from the Indian Military Academy. As major general, he commanded a strike division during Operation Parakaram and a desert corps as a lieutenant general, the statement said. Gangadharan is the Colonel of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry of Indian Army. He has held varied important appointments including deputy military secretary. (end) dr.tg KUNA 291619 Sep 06NNNN
