Kuwaiti diplomat receives Honorary Medal from Queen of Britain
KUWAIT, June 21 (KUNA) -- Ambassador Abdullah Bishara on Saturday received
an Honorary Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE)
in recognition of his outstanding work for Kuwait-British relations.
British Ambassador to Kuwait Chris Wilton, who hosted the presentation
ceremony, said Bishara was a key player in the enhancement of British-Kuwait
relations and a server of the Kuwait-British Friendship Society which was set
up in 1996.
Wilton hailed the historic ties between Kuwait and Britain, noting that
latest events have proved that such ties were the strongest of its kind.
He also praised the role Kuwait's government and peopel played in the war
to liberate Iraq.
On his part, Bishara expressed appreciation for the Queen of Britain,
Elizabeth II, Government and People of the United Kingdom for such
recognition, extending thanks to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait , His
Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister and the First Dpeuty Prime
Minister and Foreign Minister for their ongoing support for the Society's work.
Present at the ceremony, State Minister for external Affairs, Sheikh
Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, who asserted the deep-rooted Anglo-Kuwaiti
ties that date back 200 years ago.
speaking to reporters following the event, Sheikh Mohammed said
Kuwait-British ties would remain unchanged despite the changing political
conditions in the region.
He said Kuwait and countries of the region were considering seriously the
British policies towards the region, noting that the British presence in the
region is satisfactory for countries of the region.
He recalled the British stance exercised during the attempt to invade
Kuwait by Iraqi president Abdelqareem Qassem in 1961 and the Iraqi invasion of
Kuwait in 1990, by the ousted regime of Saddam Hussein.(end)
