Saudi Arabia leads first group of Arab cup soccer tournament
KUWAIT, Dec 26 (KUNA) -- Saudi Arabia's national soccer team, at the end of
the preliminary rounds on Thursday of the Prince Faisal 8th Arab Cup Soccer
Tournament, clinched first place of the first group.
The Saudi team today played a match with the Yemeni team which resulted in
a 2-2 draw giving the Saudis 10 points and a lead in accumulative points among
all teams. The team from Bahrain also pulled a draw with the team from
Lebanon qualifying the former for semifinals.
As preliminary matches concluded today, team standings of the first group
were as follows: Saudi Arabia, first place with 10 points; Bahrain with nine
points, Syria with six points, Lebanon with four points, and Yemen with one
point.
In the semifinals due on Saturday, Bahrain will play with Jordan and Saudi
Arabia with Morocco. (end)
