Seminar: women representation in KUNA example to be followed TUNIS, Oct 20 (KUNA) -- A paper entitled " Kuwaiti Woman and Work, towards a Better Future " presented to a regional seminar held Sunday in Tunis deemed women representation in Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) as an example to be followed.
The paper presented by Dr. Lubna Al-Qadi, Professor at the Social Sciences Faculty at Kuwait University, indicated that woman's representation in KUNA increased significantly from 10 employees in 1978 to 45 at present, representing 33 per cent of journalists and 37 per cent of engineers and technicians.
The seminar is organized by the Arab Woman Center for Training and Research in Tunis in cooperation with the World Bank and Al-Hariri Institution in Lebanon, it was attended by women delegations from different Arab, regional and international organizations.
The Kuwaiti woman was engaged in new professions such as law, medicine, engineering professions, she said, adding that the percentage of female doctors working in the private sector and having their own clinics reached 25 per cent of the overall number of clinics in Kuwait. (more) -- Kuwaiti women also work in the banking sector, financial institutions and assumed decision-making posts in some ministries, two women are currently occupying undersecretary posts and ten others were appointed as assistant undersecretaries, Al-Qadi said.
There are also Kuwaiti women representing their country abroad as Ambassadors, Media and Cultural Attaches in addition to international organization such as the UNESCO and World Health Organization (WHO), Al-Qadi added.
For her part, Kuwaiti Journalist Dhahouk Al-Banwan, who took part in the seminar, presented a paper entitled " The Media and Decision Making," she also highlighted her experience as a woman in providing media coverage in Albania amid the conflicts that took place there at that time.
Al-Banwan also addressed the obstacles and problems facing women with regard to assuming decision making posts, adding that women are being illogically used in publicity, promotion and marketing activities in a low-level media materials such as video clips and commercials.
