NEW YORK, Feb 24 (KUNA) -- The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has adopted a new resolution supporting lasting peace in Ukraine and calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire.
The resolution was adopted with 107 in favor, 12 against and 51 abstentions at the UNGA's 11th Emergency Special Session, marking the 4th anniversary of the Ukraine crisis.
The resolution calls for an immediate, full and unconditional ceasefire between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, and a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in line with international law, including the UN Charter.
Addressing the session in a speech, delivered on her behalf by Cape Verde's Permanent Representative to the UN, Tania Romualdo, UNGA President Annalena Baerbock said that the war in Ukraine continues to inflict indescribable suffering on the Ukrainian people.
Baerbock termed 2025 as the deadliest year for civilians since the start of the war, pointing out the systematic destruction of infrastructure in Ukrainian cities.
She noted that the UN General Assembly had adopted eight resolutions calling for the immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine. (end)
