IICO launches Ramadan food basket project in Sudan

KHARTOUM, Feb 24 (KUNA) -- The International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO), in coordination with the Kuwaiti Embassy in Sudan, launched a project to distribute more than 5,000 Ramadan food baskets to needy families across five Sudanese states.
Kuwait's Ambassador to Sudan Fahad Mishari Al-Dhafeeri told KUNA that the project involves the distribution of around 5,866 food baskets benefiting nearly 200,000 people in the states of Al-Jazira, White Nile, Khartoum, Kassala and the Red Sea. The initiative comes at a total cost of approximately USD 388,000 and includes nearly 185 tons of various food items.
Several Kuwaiti charitable societies are contributing to the initiative alongside the International Islamic Charitable Organization, he added.
He also noted that the project is a continuation of Kuwait's humanitarian role toward the Sudanese people since the outbreak of war. This includes air and sea relief bridges, projects implemented inside Sudan by Kuwaiti entities, as well as support for UN agencies operating there.
In turn, Red Sea State Governor Mustafa Mohammad Nour and several officials voiced gratitude to Kuwait and its organizations for the humanitarian support, affirming that the food baskets will be distributed across all localities of the state in coordination with the Humanitarian Aid Commission to ensure they reach eligible families.
Director of the organization's office in Sudan Al-Amin Jaafar said the program aims to support affected and vulnerable families in several Sudanese states, backed by the generous and continuous support of donors in Kuwait, reflecting the values of solidarity between the two brotherly peoples.
He stressed that the humanitarian intervention represents an extension of the organization's mission to empower people and alleviate suffering, and reinforces its effective partnerships with Sudanese authorities to ensure aid delivery with efficiency and transparency. He renewed thanks to Kuwait's leadership and people, its embassy in Sudan, the Red Sea State government and the Humanitarian Aid Commission for their cooperation in the success of the initiative.
