UNHCR renews "Pioneer of Islamic Charitable Giving" honor for Jamal Al-Nouri

By Salman Al-Mutairi KUWAIT, Feb 24 (KUNA) -- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has renewed the honorary title of "Pioneer of Islamic Charitable Giving" for Engineer Jamal Al-Nouri, Chairman of the International Islamic Charity Authority and the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nouri Charity Association, for an additional two years starting this year.
The ceremony was attended by official entities including the Ministry of Social Affairs and several organizations supporting humanitarian work in Kuwait.
UNHCR Representative in Kuwait, Nasrin Rabeean, told KUNA that the UN agency deeply appreciates Kuwait's leadership and government for their continuous support in providing decent living conditions for refugees and forcibly displaced persons worldwide, highlighting the strong humanitarian partnership between Kuwait and UNHCR in assisting the most vulnerable.
Rabeean noted that renewing the title for Al-Nouri recognizes his ongoing leadership, humanitarian contributions, and active role in advancing refugee causes and humanitarian work.
She explained that the honorary title is awarded to individuals who raise awareness about refugee issues and mobilize support to enhance UNHCR's life-saving activities.
She added that the renewal reflects appreciation for Al-Nouri's years of efforts supporting refugees and displaced persons through his leadership of the Al-Nouri Charity Association and contributions via the International Islamic Charity Authority, mobilizing resources for financial aid, shelter, education, livelihoods, and relief, strengthening dignity, stability, and hope.
Rabeean further highlighted Al-Nouri's pivotal role over six years in implementing winter campaigns in collaboration with UNHCR and his charity association, benefiting thousands of refugees in Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon, as well as his participation in regional and international conferences and field visits to support refugee issues.
The UNHCR affirmed that Islamic charitable work is a powerful force, extending beyond financial support to embody compassion, responsibility, and solidarity, expressing hope to strengthen this partnership in coming years through joint humanitarian responses and expanding opportunities for refugees, making a tangible impact on their lives.
The event also saw appreciation for the presence of the Ministry of Social Affairs' representative, praising Al-Nouri and his team for their continued dedication to humanitarian efforts and refugee support locally and internationally.
Al-Nouri told KUNA that renewing the "Pioneer of Islamic Charitable Giving" title represents additional responsibility to continue developing humanitarian partnerships and enhancing joint programs to alleviate the suffering of refugees, displaced persons, and vulnerable populations globally.
He added that the honor, granted during the holy month of Ramadan, reflects renewed values of compassion and solidarity and symbolizes the depth of cooperation with UNHCR, expressing gratitude to the UNHCR representative and team for their role in fostering constructive humanitarian collaboration.
Al-Nouri emphasized that the recognition extends Kuwait's longstanding commitment to humanitarian work, translating the directives of the nation's leadership, which prioritize serving humanity and preserving human dignity as key pillars of Kuwait's domestic and international initiatives.
He also highlighted that the partnership with UNHCR has spanned years of joint efforts based on trust and coordination, executing campaigns and projects that enhanced refugee response in crisis regions, while collaborating with various UN agencies to expand humanitarian reach and ensure sustainable impact.
Al-Nouri confirmed his authority's commitment to continue working alongside UNHCR and other humanitarian partners, implementing memoranda of understanding, enhancing coordination mechanisms, addressing growing humanitarian challenges, and maximizing the effectiveness of joint projects, while commending the Ministry of Social Affairs, official and private entities, and media for supporting charitable work and institutionalizing its presence locally and internationally.
Deputy Assistant Undersecretary for Care and Social Development at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Iman Al-Enezi, told KUNA that the ministry continues to support charitable initiatives and promote Kuwait's humanitarian leadership, enhancing its impact locally and globally.
Al-Enezi emphasized that the ministry facilitates the work of charities to enable them to perform their humanitarian mission, particularly during Ramadan, reflecting the importance of charitable work in serving society and fostering values of solidarity and compassion.
She added that the event honors a long-standing legacy of giving that has significantly contributed to humanitarian work and elevated Kuwait's profile in global charity, noting that awarding such a title to a Kuwaiti entity highlights the scale and impact of local charitable institutions.
Al-Enezi confirmed the ministry's ongoing support for associations through initiatives and programs that strengthen charitable work and instill humanitarian values, noting that it continues to adopt humanitarian initiatives, encourage philanthropy, and provide all possible support to achieve noble goals and reinforce Kuwait's status as a leading humanitarian hub regionally and internationally.
