Security operation kills 4 militants in N. Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Feb 23 (KUNA) -- At least four militants were killed in a security operation in Pakistanآ’s northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province bordering Afghanistan, said the military on Monday.
Pakistani security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan district of KPK, on reported presence of militants, the army said in a press release.
During the conduct of the operation, Pakistani troops effectively engaged the militantsآ’ location and after an intense exchange of fire, four militants were killed, it said.
Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from killed militants, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area, the army added.
Earlier in the day, security forces killed five militants, including a suicide bomber, in a security operation in Pishin District of Pakistanآ’s southwestern Balochistan province.
The operations come at a time when Pakistan is witnessing a rise in terror attacks especially in KPK and Balochistan provinces bordering Afghanistan. (end) sbk.mt
