BEIJING, Feb 23 (KUNA) -- China called on the United States to cancel unilateral tariff measures imposed on its trading partners.
The call was made in a statement published Monday by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on its official website, following a US Supreme Court ruling last Friday that invalidated the mutual tariffs and fentanyl-related duties imposed by the administration of former President Donald Trump under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
The statement said China is carefully reviewing the implications of the ruling and its broader impact, while affirming its determination to monitor alternative measures that Washington may implement, including trade investigations aimed at maintaining tariffs, in defense of Chinese rights and interests.
China reiterated its longstanding opposition to all forms of unilateral tariff actions, emphasizing that there are no winners in trade wars and protectionist measures, which yield no positive results.
The ministry stressed that US unilateral tariffs, including mutual and fentanyl-related duties, not only violate international economic and trade rules but also contravene US domestic law, failing to align with the interests of all parties.
It added that historical experience repeatedly shows that cooperation benefits both China and the US, while confrontation results in mutual losses. (end) slq.aa
