Egypt underscores respect for Kuwait's sovereignty, maritime borders

CAIRO, Feb 23 (KUNA) -- Egypt confirmed Monday the necessity of respecting Kuwait's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and maritime borders, ensuring no overlap.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a press release it is closely monitoring with deep concern the issues raised regarding coordinates and maps deposited with the United Nations concerning maritime zones between Kuwait and Iraq.
Egypt emphasized adherence to international law principles, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and relevant agreements.
It affirmed full readiness to support both brotherly nations in bridging viewpoints and reaching mutually agreed solutions consistent with international law, promoting regional security and stability.
Egypt underlined prioritizing reason and wisdom, drawing on fraternal bonds and historical ties among Arab states, especially amid highly sensitive regional conditions with severe challenges and unprecedented escalation, necessitating unity, solidarity, and dialogue.
Egypt expressed confidence in the two countries' ability to resolve the crisis through understanding, good neighborliness, and bonds, safeguarding their interests and regional stability. (end) aff.lr
