BRUSSELS, Feb 23 (KUNA) -- EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas on Monday called for a "diplomatic solution" on Iran ahead of expected talks between Tehran and Washington, as US President Donald Trump referred to the possibility of launching strikes on the country.
Speaking to reporters ahead of a meeting of European Union foreign ministers at the European Commission headquarters in Brussels, Kallas said the region cannot afford another war, stressing that any new conflict would significantly worsen the already fragile instability.
She added that Iran is currently at its weakest point, noting that the present circumstances create an opportunity that must be seized to pursue a political track, and emphasized the importance of acting swiftly to achieve a diplomatic solution.
Kallas affirmed that the European Union favors the diplomatic path reiterating the need to avoid escalation and to work toward de-escalation in the Middle East through dialogue. (end) arn.ahm
