CAIRO, Feb 11 (KUNA) -- The Council of the League of Arab States at the level of Permanent Representatives on Wednesday called on US President Donald Trump to honor his commitments to Arab and Islamic states and take clear, practical steps to prevent the Israeli occupation from annexing the occupied West Bank.
The call came in a resolution issued at the conclusion of an emergency meeting of the Council, chaired by the United Arab Emirates at the request of the State of Palestine and with the support of member states.
The meeting discussed Arab and international action to confront recent Israeli occupation decisions to expand settlements and entrench annexation policies, including in occupied East Jerusalem.
The Council reaffirmed its steadfast support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, their right to self-determination, right of return, and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
It condemned occupation measures aimed at consolidating annexation, settlement expansion, forced displacement, home demolitions, land confiscation, and the transfer of Hebron municipality powers to the so-called Civil Administration, including actions affecting the status of Al-Ibrahimi Mosque.
The Council stressed that any annexation of occupied Palestinian territory constitutes a war crime and a grave breach of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 2334.
It rejected any attempts to alter the demographic composition of Gaza or the West Bank and called for international protection for the Palestinian people, implementation of the July 2024 ICJ advisory opinion, and continued support for UNRWA. (end) mm.aai
