Oman affirms importance of Iran-US return to peaceful dialogue

MUSCAT, Feb 10 (KUNA) -- The Sultanate of Oman on Tuesday underscored the importance of Iran and the United States returning to the negotiating table, narrowing differences and resolving disputes through peaceful means to promote peace and security in the region and worldwide.
Oman News Agency (ONA) reported that the remarks were made during a meeting held in Muscat between Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman and Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani, during which the latest developments related to the Iranian-US negotiations and ways to reach a balanced and fair agreement between the two sides were discussed.
According to ONA, Larijani conveyed to Sultan Haitham the greetings of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his wishes of health and prosperity, while the Sultan asked him to extend his greetings and wishes of stability for Iran.
ONA also noted that Larijani earlier met with Omani Minister of the Royal Office Lt. Gen. Sultan Al-Nuamani, expressing appreciation for Oman's positions on several regional and international issues.
Al-Nuamani, for his part, affirmed the depth of bilateral relations between Oman and Iran, the agency added, noting that the two sides discussed a number of issues of mutual interest.
Oman had hosted Iranian-US negotiations in Muscat last Friday aimed at reaching an agreement between the two sides, represented in the round by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff. (end) ahm
