GENEVA, Feb 9 (KUNA) -- Kuwait stressed that ending the ongoing crisis in Sudan requires an immediate ceasefire and the adoption of de-escalatory measures to enable the resumption of a comprehensive political process led by the Sudanese themselves, with international support.
The remarks were made by Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hain, during the interactive dialogue with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on the human rights situation in Sudan.
Ambassador Al-Hain expressed Kuwait's deep concern over the continued deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Sudan and the severe suffering endured by civilians, particularly considering serious violations committed against civilians by the Rapid Support Forces.
He emphasized the necessity for all parties in Sudan to fully adhere to the principles of international humanitarian law and international human rights law to ensure the protection of civilians and vital infrastructure, and to guarantee safe, unhindered, and timely access for humanitarian assistance to those in need.
