Egypt slams attacks on aid convoys, health facilities in Sudan
CAIRO, Feb 8 (KUNA) -- Egypt condemned repeated attacks on aid convoys and medical facilities in Sudan, including a drone strike on a World Food Programme (WFP) convoy in North Kordofan that killed one staff member and destroyed food aid for displaced families.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Egypt's Foreign Ministry also cited another incident in North Kordofan that left 24 civilians dead, warning of the escalating targeting of humanitarian corridors and obstruction of relief efforts.
Egypt further condemned an attack on a medical facility in the Kordofan region that caused dozens of deaths and injuries, including among medical staff, calling it a grave violation of international humanitarian law protecting civilians, health facilities and humanitarian and medical workers.
Repeated violations are worsening Sudan's unprecedented humanitarian crisis amid rising displacement and food insecurity, the statement said, underlining the need for aid to reach the Sudanese people without obstruction to ease suffering and help create conditions to halt escalation and restore stability.
