Info Min. meets WMF delegation

KUWAIT, Jan 28 (KUNA) -- Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdul-Rahman Badah Al-Mutairi highlighted the importance of conserving the cultural heritage and historical value of Failaka Island.
Speaking to reporters after his meeting a delegation from World Monuments Fund (WMF) on Wednesday, the minister lauded the leading role of the organization in safeguarding the world's most treasured places.
He appreciated "the professional partnership" with WMF in in a project to designate Failaka as World Heritage Site on UNESCO's list.
"Failaka Island represents one of Kuwait's historical and cultural landmarks that mirrors the country's rich heritage and cultural identity," Al-Mutairi pointed out.
"The designation of the Island for the World Heritage List is in keeping with with Kuwait's national tendency to preserve our national identity and enhance our civilizational presence.
"It is part of the strategy of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature (NCCAL) to safeguard the heritage sites and enrich our cultural content according to the international standards," he went on. Al-Mutairi added that NCCAL works to turn the heritage sites into vivid cultural platforms to back up education, tourism and development in a balanced way. (end) shd.gb
