NDHR, UN discuss joint coop.

KUWAIT, Jan 26 (KUNA) -- The National Diwan for Human Rights (NDHR) held on Monday a coordination meeting with the United Nations' office in Kuwait in order to boost joint cooperation and enhance international standards.
This came in a press release by NDHR, saying that the meeting was chaired by representative of the UN Secretary-General and Resident Coordinator to Kuwait Ghada Al-Taher, with the participation of several UN offices and agencies.
It added that the meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Tripartite Committee for the Management of NDHR Minister Plenipotentiary Anas Al-Shaheen, members of the committee, and a number of concerned parties.
It noted that the meeting discussed prospects for technical and legal cooperation between the two sides and ways to develop existing partnerships in a manner that contributes to strengthening the human rights system in the Kuwait and supporting efforts to build institutional capacities and develop monitoring, follow-up and documentation mechanisms.
It pointed out that the meeting addressed the importance of coordinating efforts in following up on international recommendations issued by UN human rights mechanisms and working to align national policies and programs with international standards relevant to the work of national human rights institutions.
It added that both sides emphasized the importance of continued coordination and exchange of expertise and best practices to support the national role of NDHR and contribute to strengthening cooperation with the UN's system in human rights and development fields of common interest. (end) ns.bb
