China urges security partnership with Islamic world to support MENA stability

BEIJING, Jan 26 (KUNA) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed on Monday China's commitment to building a security partnership with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to help promote political solutions to regional crises and safeguard peace and stability in the Middle East.
According to a statement by China's Foreign Ministry, the remarks came during Wang's meeting with OIC Secretary-General Hussein Brahim Taha in Beijing, where the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Wang said China is ready to work with the Islamic world to defend the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries and underscored the need to address historical injustice reflected in widening global inequality.
He highlighted the long history and the mutual support between China and Islamic countries and expressed appreciation for the OIC's support on issues related to Xinjiang and Taiwan, and called for deeper political trust, implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, enhanced civilizational dialogue, genuine multilateralism, and adherence to the central role of the United Nations.
On his part, Taha reaffirmed the OIC's commitment to the One-China principle, praised development achievements in Xinjiang, and voiced opposition to foreign interference in China's internal affairs.
He also commended Beijing's role in supporting a comprehensive, just, and lasting solution to the Palestinian cause, stressing the importance of continued dialogue to promote regional peace and stability. (end) slq.dss
