Kuwaiti publishers omnipresent amid Cairo int'l book fair

Report by Abdulaziz Faisal CAIRO, Jan 25 (KUNA) -- A wide array of Kuwaiti publishers were on hand as the 57th Cairo International Book Fair continued on Sunday in the Egyptian Capital, all of whom aim to shine the spotlight on the some of the most prominent literary works and cultural landmarks.
The event, touted as among the most prominent "cultural gatherings," in the region, aims to ratchet up cooperation across the wider Arab region, while the Kuwaiti participants in the book fair agree that the exhibition is tantamount to a global "platform" that allows Kuwait the chance to reinforce its presence in the cultural arena.
Kuwait's National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature (NCCAL), one of the participants in the gathering, seeks to propel Kuwait's relations with Egypt to greater levels, said the body's representative Abdullatif Al-Kharafi, citing the Egyptian audience's penchant for reading and knowledge-based cultural works.
On what the NCCAL's pavilion at the book fair is showcasing, he said that the works on display run the gamut from short stories to poems and intellectual series, all of which enjoy a "rabid fan base" among Egyptian readers, added the official.
Kuwait International Law School (KILAW) representative Sami Al-Wuhaibi highlighted the gathering as instrumental in pushing forward the pan-Arab "cultural movement," citing the plethora of publications the school is displaying to bolster law-based knowledge and legal reasoning, he said.
On KILAW's participation in the Cairo international book fair, faculty member Dr. Khaled Al-Saeedi said that it was part of the body's academic expansion plans,which seek to give the school's most notable works greater international exposure, he highlighted.
The Cairo International Book Fair is among the largest and most visited exhibitions in the region, bringing together international publishers, readers, authors and literary professionals under one roof to look into the latest trends in the industry. (end) aff.nam
