WASHINGTON, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- A man, identified as Alex Pretti, 37, was fatally shot in the chest by a federal immigration officer in Minneapolis city, Minnesota State, on Saturday.
The victim, the third since the start of the anti-ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) protests in the city, succumbed to his injuries before being rushed to hospital, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara told reporters.
While the Department of Homeland Security claimed that the man had a gun in his hand and resisted the law enforcers, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz rejected their narrative as "nonsense."
In a post on his X account, Walz said, "I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota has had it. This is sickening.
"The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now."
The incident added to the tense situation in the city where anti-ICE protesters marched to confront agents more than two weeks after a similar fatal shooting.
On Wednesday, January 7, Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was killed by an ICE agent who shot into her vehicle.
One week later, an ICE agent shot a man from Venezuela during an operation in North Minneapolis. (end)
