Senegal beats Morocco 1-0, claims 2nd AFCON title

RABAT, Jan 18 (KUNA) - Senegal was crowned the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) champions, after securing a dramatic 1-0 extra-time victory over host nation Morocco in the final.
The match, played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, was tightly contested with goalkeepers Yassine Bounou of Morocco and Edouard Mendy of Senegal making crucial saves throughout the initial 90 minutes to keep the scores deadlocked.
The decisive moment came in the 94th minute when Senegalese midfielder Pape Gueye unleashed a thunderous left-foot rocket that settled into the top corner. This goal, four minutes into extra time, sealed the Teranga Lions' second continental title in their history. Senegal's captain Sadio Manأ© was later named the Player of the Tournament.
Moroccans missed a chance to win in the dying minutes of the final when Brahim Diaz missed a penalty kick that could have secured the title for the home team.
