CAIRO, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- Palestine's Gaza national committee has begun its action to run the Strip from Cairo, confirming its unwavering obligation to cement security and resume basic services like electricity, water, education and healthcare.
In a statement on Sunday, the committee said the 20-point transitional technocratic body formed upon the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2803 and US President Donald Trump's peace plan held its inaugural meeting in Cairo on January 15 under the leadership of general commissioner Dr. Ali Shaath as a key step toward achieving stability and rebuilding the Strip.
The meeting officially announced the mandate of the committee is to take civil responsibilities and internal security in the Strip, it added.
It noted that Shaath affirmed that this a Palestinian body formed by Palestinians for Palestinians, with the support of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Palestinian Authority and factions.
"Reconstructing Gaza does not only mean rebuilding infrastructure, but also restoring a society committed to stability, dignity, and a just and sustainable peace," Shaath said.
The committee contains a group of Palestinian technicians and experts chosen to run transition management like Abdulkarim Ashour for agriculture, Omar Shamaly for communication and digital services, Dr. Bashir Al-Rayes for finance, Sami Nesman for interior and internal security and more, the statement said.
The committee will work on building a productive economy able to provide balanced opportunities to all, it concluded. (end)
