BEIJING, Jan 15 (KUNA) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday reaffirmed his country's opposition to the use of force in international relations.
China Central Television (CCTV) reported that Wang made the remarks during a telephone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss recent developments in Iran.
Wang said that Beijing consistently calls for adherence to the purposes of the UN Charter and international law, expressing confidence in the ability of the Iranian government and people to unite in overcoming difficulties, safeguarding national stability, and defending Iran's legitimate rights and interests.
He also voiced hope that all parties would prioritize peace, exercise restraint, and resolve differences through dialogue, affirming China's readiness to play a "constructive role" in this regard.
For his part, Araghchi briefed the Chinese foreign minister on the latest developments in Iran, asserting that the unrest witnessed in the country was the result of external incitement.
He stressed that the situation has returned to stability at present, while underscoring Tehran's readiness to confront foreign interference while keeping the door open to dialogue. Araghchi also expressed hope that China would play a greater role in maintaining regional peace and stability. (end)
