CAIRO, Jan 14 (KUNA) -- Palestinian factions and political forces confirmed Wednesday their full commitment to implementing the Gaza ceasefire agreement in all its phases and supporting efforts to address the consequences of the recent conflict, as well as advancing the next phase of the agreement.
This came in a statement issued following a meeting of Palestinian representatives in Cairo, convened at the invitation of Egypt and under the auspices of Egyptian President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi.
The factions expressed their appreciation for the efforts of mediators, including Egypt, Qatar, Turkiye, and the US, in supporting the Palestinian people and alleviating their suffering in Gaza.
They emphasized their support for mediator-led efforts to establish a transitional national committee to manage Gaza, ensuring a smooth assumption of responsibilities for basic services and daily life.
This committee would work in coordination with the Palestinian Peace Council and its international executive committee to oversee early recovery and reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip.
The meeting also called on the Peace Council, in coordination with mediators, to pressure Israel to halt aggression, open crossings, allow humanitarian aid, and withdraw occupying forces, aiming to restore lasting calm and normalcy in Gaza.
The participants stressed the importance of unifying Palestinian positions to overcome the current phase, move toward political unity, and defend Palestinian rights against West Bank annexation plans, settlement expansion, and violations at religious sites in Jerusalem.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the factions' commitment to an independent Palestinian state and expressing gratitude to Egypt and the mediators for their continued support of the Palestinian cause. (end)
