EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas
BRUSSELS, Jan 6 (KUNA) -- The European Union on Tuesday called on the occupation to allow international non-governmental organizations (INGO) to continue humanitarian operations and enable assistance delivery to civilians in Palestine amid the deteriorating humanitarian situation, particularly the Gaza Strip.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said the Gaza humanitarian situation worsens during winter, as heavy rainfall, falling temperatures, and lack of adequate shelter intensify hardships faced by Palestinian civilians.
She noted children continue facing educational deprivation, while medical facilities operate under severe constraints caused by critical shortages of staff, medicines, and equipment, further undermining basic services available to civilians throughout Gaza amid ongoing conflict.
Kallas stressed that without sustained and predictable access for international organizations, humanitarian assistance cannot be delivered rapidly or at necessary scale, warning this would increase civilian suffering and risk additional loss of life in Gaza.
She affirmed that under international humanitarian law all parties must allow and facilitate rapid, safe, and unimpeded passage of humanitarian assistance and essential services to civilians in need throughout Palestine during armed conflict situations there. (end)
