Somali army kills 29 Al-Shabaab militants

ALGIERS, Jan 1 (KUNA) -- The Somali army has killed 29 Al-Shabaab militants in security operations in southeastern Somalia, in collaboration with international partners, the Defense Ministry said Thursday.
"Somalia's armed forces have eliminated 29 al-Shabaab militants in the town of Jabad Godane in southeastern Somalia, in coordination with international partners," the ministry said in a press release.
They have also destroyed vehicles and weapons that were allegedly intended for use in militant attacks against civilians through overnight airstrikes in the Middle Shabelle region, it added.
The ministry voiced gratitude and appreciation to international partners for their continued security cooperation and intelligence exchange in the fight against terrorism. (end) mr.mt
