Sudan's ruling body chief: Nat'l reconciliation remains open

KHARTOUM, Jan 1 (KUNA) -- Chairman of Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan on Thursday vowed victory in the war against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), saying that national reconciliation remains open.
"Victory is coming. The war has unified the Sudanese people and strengthened their national determination," Burhan said in a televised address to the nation marking the 70th anniversary of Sudan's independence.
"We also affirm that the door to national reconciliation remains open," the Sudanese ruling council's chief said, lauding the country's political forces that stand side by side with the national army.
Al-Burhan said he would welcome anyone wishing to join national reconciliation, and vowed to do his utmost to establish a state of citizenship.
The Sudanese army and the paramilitary RSF have been engaged in a civil war since April 2023, with thousands of people having been killed or injured, and millions of others displaced. (end) mam.mt
