CAIRO, Dec 27 (KUNA) -- The Arab League will convene an emergency meeting tomorrow, Sunday, to discuss the developments related to the Israeli occupation's recognition of the so-called "Somaliland."
The permanent delegate-level meeting, to be held upon a request from Somalia, is to reaffirm the Arab categorical rejection of any unilateral measures or decisions that undermine Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Cairo-based League said in a statement on Saturday.
The meeting also stresses the abidance by international humanitarian law, and the relevant Arab League and the African Union decisions, it added.
The gathering will discuss means of boosting joint Arab position in the face of this step and show full solidarity with Somalia and back legitimate institutions in a manner that maintains security and stability in the region of the African Horn, it noted.
Earlier, Somalia's Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League Ali Abdi Awrai announced that his country called for an emergency meeting to deal with the repercussions of Israeli occupation recognition of what is called "the Republic of Somaliland" and condemn this irresponsible decision, according to the statement.
