KUWAIT, Dec 27 (KUNA) -- The Environment Public Authority (EPA), represented by judicial officers and in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, has issued penalties against five anti-environmental cases near Al-Nuwaiseeb.
Sheikha Al-Ibrahim, EPA Public Relations and Media Director, said in a statement to KUNA on Saturday that a number of violations were recorded -- namely usage of environmentally unfriendly construction materials and shepherding at an unallowed spots.
Al-Ibrahim cited Article 40 of the environment protection law that prohibits actions that harm or pollute the soil. The penalty for such offense ranges between KD 250 and KD 5,000 and the offender is compelled to remove the harmful materials according to a timetable.
Moreover, Article 41, she has added, bans exploiting land plots in the undeveloped regions for shepherding and watered cultivation that adversly affect plants or leads to desertification and deterioration of the ecosystem.
The same provision prohibits destruction or picking of plants, trees and flowers at the public places. The penalty for this case is identical. (end)
