Nigeria confirms US strike on IS targets in its northwest

RABAT, Dec 26 (KUNA) -- Nigeria's Foreign Ministry said Friday the United States carried out airstrikes targeting so-called "Islamic State" locations in Nigeria, after US President Donald Trump announced forces were operating in the West African nation.
In a statement, the ministry said Nigerian authorities continue structured security cooperation with international partners, foremost among them the US, to counter the ongoing threat of terrorism and violent extremism.
The statement added that this cooperation led to precision airstrikes against terrorist targets in northwestern Nigeria, without disclosing further details on the locations or the outcome of the strikes.
The strikes mark the first US military intervention in Nigeria during President Donald Trump's term. (end) mry.ao
