Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah presides Cabinet meeting
KUWAIT, Dec 17 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti government held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss a variety of issues, including the second anniversary of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah assumption of post.
The meeting, chaired by Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah, congratulated His Highness the Amir on the grand occasion, wishing him lasting health and welfare.
Speaking after the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Shereeda Al-Mousherji affirmed that the cabinet extended sincere wishes to His Highness the Amir and the Kuwaiti people on this joyous occasion, expressing hopes for further progress and development in Kuwait and lasting health and welfare to His Highness the Amir.
Meanwhile, the cabinet decided to suspend work at government bodies and entities on New Year's Day -- Thursday, January 1, 2026, -- with work resuming on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
Institutions of special nature will operate during this period according to their respective capacities.
The cabinet touched on Bahrain's celebrations of the 54th National Day and 26th Anniversary of King Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al-Khalifa's ascension to post, congratulating the fellow GCC country and wishing the Kingdom further progress and development.
Similar congratulations were extended to the State of Qatar on the upcoming celebrations of the Qatar Founding Day on December 18, which commemorates the unification of Qatar and the establishment modern state by founder, Sheikh Jassem bin Mohammad Al-Thani.
The cabinet expressed sincere congratulations to the Qatari leadership and people, wishing them further progress and development.
For his part, Minister of Defense and head of the honorary delegation Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah informed the meeting of the visit on Sunday by Saudi State Minister and member of the Cabinet Prince Turki bin Mohammad bin Fahad bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and the accompanying delegation.
The Saudi official met with His Highness the Amir and conveyed greetings from King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, said Sheikh Abdullah, adding that the visiting Saudi official wished His Highness the Amir good health and welfare, for which His Highness Sheikh Meshal asked the Saudi official to
reciprocate such sincere feelings to the Saudi leadership and people.
He indicated that Prince Turki also met with His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yusuf with both meetings reflecting the strong ties between the two countries.
Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya informed the cabinet of his meeting with visiting Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, and the accompanying delegation. The meeting between the two sides focused on boosting ties on all possible venues and also touched on development projects and ways to pursue cooperation therein.
The cabinet also reviewed the meeting of the ministerial committee tasked with economic affairs, discussing the minutes of the meeting as well as the semi-annual report of the Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) for the April-September 2025 period.
The cabinet discussed the minutes of the ministerial committee tasked with public services, which included a regular report by the Ministry of Public Works on measures taken by the team tasked with preserving the environment in the Kuwait Bay area and the timetable to execute proposed measures.
Other reports and issues were discussed by the cabinet, including the referral of several topics to specialized ministerial committees. (end)
