BRUSSELS, Dec 17 (KUNA) -- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday welcomed Britainآ’s return to the Erasmus+ student exchange programme, considering it an additional step within the framework of the renewed strategic partnership between the European Union and the United Kingdom.
In a post on X, von der Leyen said that the two sides had concluded negotiations on the United Kingdomآ’s association with the Erasmus+ programme as of 2027, "bringing back Erasmus+ for our young people, opening the door to new shared experiences and lasting friendships." She added that the EU and the UK had also concluded exploratory talks on Britainآ’s participation in the EUآ’s internal electricity market, a move reflecting strengthened cooperation in the energy sector.
Von der Leyen affirmed the two sidesآ’ commitment to continue delivering on their common agenda in preparation for the next EU-UK Summit.
A joint EU-UK statement issued Wednesday said that Britain will rejoin the European student exchange programme Erasmus after nearly five years of withdrawal following its exit from the European Union (Brexit). (end) arn.mt
