Parliament Speaker: Lebanese Army has implemented bulk of truce accord

BEIRUT, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Thursday affirmed that the Lebanese Army has executed 90 percent of the cease-fire accord south of the Litani River.
The mission will be entirely finalized by the year-end, said Berri in a statement released after he met with members of the Journalists Syndicate.
Lebanon, since November 2024, when the accord of ceasing hostilities was reached, has "executed the schedule and the army deployed with more than 9,300 officers and soldiers backed by UN Interim Forces in Lebanon, latest report of which verified this," Berri added.
The Israeli occupation forces have breached this agreement more than 11,000 times and expanded occupation of the Lebanese territories, Berri added.
The area south of the Litani River, a strip extending from the riverbanks to the UN-drawn Blue Line (the withdrawal line between Israel and Lebanon), is roughly 20 to 30 kilometers wide.
Berri stressed that Lebanon through the "mechanism" commission has been seeking to secure withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces, deploy the Lebanese Army troops and restrict arms possession south of the Litani to the Lebanese armed forces.
The commission, including American and French officers, was established as a coordination body with the occupation in 2006. (end) ayb.rk
