Japan's Ambassador highlights Japanese language as bridge to Kuwait

By Omar Al-Mutairi KUWAIT, Dec 8 (KUNA) -- The Embassy of Japan in Kuwait hosted the 18th Japanese Language Speaking Competition on Monday at Kuwait University, gathering students, educators, and cultural enthusiasts to celebrate and strengthen ties between the two nations.
The event was organized in cooperation with the Center for Community Service and Continuing Education at Kuwait University and the Japanese Society in Kuwait.
Six participants delivered speeches in Japanese, showcasing their passion for the language and the cultural values it represents.
The competition is part of ongoing efforts to promote Japanese-language education and cultural exchange in Kuwait.
In his opening remarks, Japan's Ambassador to Kuwait, Kenichiro Mukai, emphasized that language serves as a bridge between nations.
Sharing his personal experience learning Modern Standard Arabic and the Kuwaiti dialect, he noted that understanding a language deepens cultural understanding and human connection.
"This competition is not just about language skills - it is an opportunity to showcase your passion and build a bridge for cultural exchange between Japan and Kuwait." said the Ambassador.
Ambassador Mukai told KUNA that learning Japanese opens "a new world" for Kuwaitis, offering insight into Japan's spirit, culture, and heritage.
He noted that cultural events such as the speech competition play a key role in strengthening mutual understanding and fostering people-to-people ties.
Looking ahead, Japan plans to expand cultural exchange into additional areas, particularly sports, in conjunction with hosting the Asia Games next year.
Ambassador Mukai also encouraged Kuwaiti youth to pursue Japanese studies and explore academic opportunities in Japan, especially in fields such as technology, AI, cybersecurity, and engineering.
The Embassy of Japan reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Japanese-language learners in Kuwait and promoting cultural, academic, and people-to-people engagement between the two countries.
The program included a presentation by Prof. Oki Yutaroh from the Study in Japan Global Network Project (J-MENA) on academic opportunities in Japan, along with a live kendo demonstration by the Kuwait Kendo and Iaido Club, highlighting Japan's martial arts heritage, discipline, and emphasis on harmony of mind and body.
