KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 (KUNA) -- The latest death toll from the floods and landslides in Indonesia's Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra had surged to 836, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).
More than 2,700 have been injured, while 518 people are still missing due to the disaster, the BNPB said in a press release.
It added that search and rescue operations were ongoing, in collaboration with a joint team of Indonesian army and police forces as well as local volunteers.
Indonesian Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni acknowledged that poor forest management had worsened the extent of the disaster, vowing that his ministry would investigate 12 companies suspected of contributing to the disaster. (end)
