German aid to Ukraine since start of war above USD 87.5 billion

BERLIN, Nov 29 (KUNA) -- Germany has pursued its role as the number-one supporter for Ukraine since start of its war with Russia in February 2022, with estimated value of the aid exceeding USD 87.5 billion.
The German Government, in a recently released report, revealed that value of the civil assistance to Ukraine reached USD 41.5 billion while that of the military backing USD 47 billion.
Some of the civil allocations have targeted refugees, namely the estimated one million Ukrainians including women and children who have taken up refuge in Germany, according to the official report. They include financial allotments granted by the 16 states' governments and municipalities.
According to the report, refugees are granted direct and indirect government aid, such as German language teaching courses, other educational as well as research programs, intended to facilitate their merger into the German society.
At the military level, Germany ranks top in Europe regarding the aid given to Ukraine, supplying the Ukrainian armed forces with equipment, arms in addition to training Ukrainians on German territories.
The military aid includes the air defense systems Iris-T and the Patriots, combat vehicles, artillery batteries, Leopard-2 tanks, armored vehicles Marder and Gibard, ammunition, anti-aircraft radars, various vehicles, light weapons, medical supplies and uniforms.
The report affirms that the German Army organizes training courses for thousands of Ukrainian troops on the German territories, teaching them how to employ heavy equipment, mastering field defense strategies, demining and first aid.
Moreover, Berlin has provided aid to Ukrainians to repair and maintain the energy infrastructure, in addition to providing Kyiv with turbines, alternative equipment for the infrastructure and power generators.
Also according to the report, the German Government coordinates with international organizations and NGOs to ensure delivery of medical aid, food and clean water quickly to Ukrainians who live close to the combat zones. (end) anj.rk
