Migration to Britain drops by 60 percent
LONDON, Nov 27 (KUNA) -- Net migration to Britain dropped between June 2024 and last June to 204,000, declining by 60 percent in a year, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said in data publicized on Saturday.
Number of migrants who came for a long stay (more than 12 months) for work or study reached, during the same duration, 897,000, while 693,000 foreigners departed the country during the same period.
Coming expatriates per annum dropped by more than 401,000, mostly of non-European nationality. This drop was attributed to decrease of companions of holders of study or work visa, by 70 percent.
Number of those who departed the United King climbed by 43,000, mostly students of institutes and universities. Among this category were 252,000 Britons, equivalent to the number of European-nationality holders who left the country.
In a separate report, the office said the UK population reached 69.5 million, in the end of September, increasing by 300,000, in contrast to last year's corresponding period. (end) mrn.rk
