KUWAIT, Nov 27 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Defense Undersecretary Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Meshal Al-Sabah affirmed Kuwait's firm commitment to supporting the Chemical Weapons Convention, preventing its proliferation, and working to ensure that the Middle East and the entire world are completely free of such weapons.
The Ministry of Defense stated to KUNA on Thursday that Dr. Al-Sabah delivered Kuwait's address to the 30th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention, held in The Hague from November 24 to 28.
He underscored the importance of all State Parties fully adhering to verification mechanisms and upholding accountability for any violations, stressing Kuwait's unwavering support for the Palestinian people and its categorical rejection of any use of prohibited chemical agents against civilians in all circumstances.
Dr. Al-Sabah reiterated Kuwait's condemnation of military operations targeting Palestinian civilians as a blatant breach of international humanitarian law, expressing Kuwait's aspiration for forming new scientific teams to strengthen the Organization's research and verification capabilities.
He further affirmed Kuwait's support for establishing a specialized scientific laboratory in the State of Kuwait, calling at the conclusion of his speech for enhanced international cooperation to prohibit chemical weapons and for maintaining constructive dialogue to safeguard global peace and security.
On the sidelines of the conference, the Defense Undersecretary and the accompanying delegation held several bilateral meetings with heads of delegations and international officials to discuss opportunities for enhanced cooperation and exchanges of technical and legislative expertise related to implementing the Convention.
Kuwait's delegation included Acting Charge d'Affaires at Kuwait's Embassy in The Netherlands Ibrahim Al-Duai and several representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense. (end)
