The annual 27th Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah Book Competition
LONDON, Nov 14 (KUNA) -- The annual 27th Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah Book Competition was held at the School of Middle Eastern and African Studies (SOAS) University of London, honoring best English-language books on the Middle East.
During the ceremony on Thursday, Ambassador Frances Guy, Chair of the judging panel, announced that the winning title was Prophet of Reason by Peter Hill, while the two runners up were Toiling for oil by Touraj Atabaki and Companionship and Virtue in Classical Sufism by Jason Welle.
In a statement to KUNA, Kuwait's Ambassador to the UK Bader Al-Munaikh praised the foundation's efforts, affirming that the award reflects Kuwait's commitment to culture, literature, and the promotion of peace.
Al-Munaikh said the prize strengthens Kuwaiti-British cultural relations, especially through its partnership with SOAS.
Sheikh Mubarak Abdullah Al-Sabah said the award builds bridges between ideas, individuals, and history, stressing the foundation's dedication to supporting Middle Eastern studies.
Sheikh Mubarak thanked Ambassador Al-Munaikh and the embassy staff for their support, expressing hope for future collaboration with leading universities.
The prize, sponsored by Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah Foundation, attracts around 50 entries annually and has been a prominent feature of the academic calendar for over two decades.
This year's awards were presented by Sheikh Mubarak Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah. (end)
