President of the tournament technical committee and the Kuwaiti and Arab shooting federations, Duaij Alotaibi
KUWAIT, Nov 7 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti shooting team was crowned on Friday champion of the Asian Shotgun Grand Prix held in the country, winning two gold medals, thus bagging all the gold ones of the prestigious competitions.
With the two freshly earned trophies, the national team increased number of the bagged medals to seven (four gold, two silver and a single bronze," going on record as winner of all gold medals of the championship.
In the final day of the competitions, the Kuwaiti shooter Abdulaziz Almandeel won the gold medal in the skeet category, ahead of the Pakistani shooter Usman Shand who ranked second. The Pakistani Imam Haroun came third, winning the bronze medal.
In the females' division, the Kuwaiti shooter Iman Al-Shammaa came first, while Sara Mohammad from Qatar ranked second, followed by the Kazakh peer, Adel Sadakbayeva.
President of the tournament technical committee and the Kuwaiti and Arab shooting federations, Duaij Alotaibi, dedicated the great victory to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
In a statement o journalists after end of the competitions, Al-Otaibi said the championship was of particular significance because it was regarded as preparatory exercise for the Olympic tournament due in Los Angeles in 2028.
He expressed gratitude to the Minister of Information, Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Almutairi for his continuous support for the sport. He also heaped praise upon the Public Authority for Sports and other relevant authorities for providing facilities for holding the championship. (end)
