Second World Summit for Social Development concludes in Doha

DOHA, Nov 6 (KUNA) -- The Second World Summit for Social Development, hosted by Qatar on November 4-6, concluded on Thursday, with a wide international praise of its outcomes and results.
In a closing ceremony, the summit welcomed again the Doha Political Declaration, which was approved by the conference and stressed agreement on eradicating poverty, providing proper job opportunities to all and achieving social integration as main elements for sustainable development.
Delivering a closing speech, President of the UN General Assembly's 80th session Annalena Baerbock said the Doha Summit is a new beginning for advancing social development globally and achieving numerous goals related to improving education, healthcare services, communications, and other vital aspects that serve communities.
She explained that the summit represented a turning point, as it moved from the stage of diagnosing problems to taking practical measures to solve them, thanks to multilateral efforts by governmental and UN organizations, civil society organizations, and the private sector.
It's time, more than ever, to exploit this significant momentum at the Doha Summit after listening to and considering the views of the heads of state, government leaders, and all parties involved in social development, she stressed.
Baerbock lauded Qatar's excellent organization of the summit, 30 years after the first one in Copenhagen. (end) sss.hm
